 Sudan dyes were first developed as fat-soluble (lysochrome) dyes to stain lipids.

  • They belong to the azo dye family, synthesized for use in industrial and biological staining.
  • Among these, Sudan Black B emerged as a more refined dye with strong affinity for phospholipids and neutral fats.
