Blast From The Past: Beer

German Beer Day (known as Tag des Deutschen Bieres) is celebrated every year on April 23, 1516 in Germany.

This date marks the anniversary of the historic Reinheitsgebot, enacted in 1516 in Bavaria. It is one of the oldest food safety laws in the world.  

The law originally stated that beer could only be made using:

• Water
• Barley
• Hops
