Lysine

1889 Discovery: Isolated by Ferdinand Heinrich Edmund Drechsel from the hydrolysis of casein, naming it "Lysin" (from Greek lysis, meaning loosening).

1902 Structural Elucidation: German chemists Emil Fischer and Fritz Weigert determined its structure and synthesized it.

1956 Industrial Milestone: The bacterium Corynebacterium glutamicum was isolated, allowing for large-scale lysine production via fermentation.

1958 Production Start: Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co. Ltd. (now Kyowa Hakko Bio) pioneered the first industrial lysine fermentation process.

Clopton Hovers

Clopton Havers (24 February 1657 – April 1702) was an English physician who did pioneering research on the microstructure of bone. He is believed to have been the first person to observe and almost certainly the first to describe what are now called Haversian canals
