World Preeclampsia Day

Eclampsia: From Greek (eklampsis), meaning "a sudden flash" or "shining forth," which historically described the sudden onset of seizures.

Around 400 BCE, Hippocrates described convulsions during pregnancy, likely early accounts of eclampsia.

In 1694, French physician François Mauriceau described seizures associated with pregnancy and delivery. The disorder was mainly referred to as “toxemia of pregnancy”

Blast From The Past: Flying Machine

On May 22, 1906, the U.S. Patent Office granted Wilbur and Orville Wright Patent No. 821,393 for their "Flying-Machine". Rather than patenting an entire aircraft, they patented their revolutionary three-axis aerodynamic control system (which included wing-warping and a movable rudder).

Theophylline

Theophylline was first identified in 1888 by the German biochemist Albrecht Kossel, who isolated it from tea leaves. Its name comes from Thea sinensis (tea plant) and “phylline,” reflecting its chemical relationship to compounds found in plants such as caffeine and theobromine.
