Auditory Brain Stem Response: Donald Jewett
Donald B. Jewett and colleagues described series of fast waves generated within the first 10 milliseconds after a click stimulus. These became known as the Jewett waves (Waves I–VII), the basis of modern ABR/BERA testing.
Their work showed that:
- Different waves originated from specific anatomical locations in the auditory pathway
- The responses were highly reproducible
- Brainstem function could be objectively evaluated
