Talcum

                                                                 TALC TO  TALCUM

Talcum powder comes from talc, a naturally occurring mineral composed mainly of magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. Its softness (it’s the softest mineral on the Mohs scale) made it useful very early in human history.

  • Ancient civilizations such as Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome used finely ground powders (including talc-like substances) for:
    • Skin care and cooling
    • Absorbing moisture
    • Cosmetic purposes (face powders, body dusting)
  • In Ancient Egypt, powders were often perfumed and used to keep skin dry in hot climates.
