Apollo 13 was launched by NASA on April 11, 1970, at 13:13 CST (19:13 UTC) from Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Intended as the third lunar landing, the mission was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded on April 13, forcing the crew to use the Lunar Module as a lifeboat before returning safely on April 17, 1970.
