Rotavirus
Rotavirus was first identified in 1973 by Australian researchers led by Ruth Bishop in Melbourne. Using electron microscopy, they observed wheel-shaped viral particles in intestinal biopsies from children with acute diarrhea.
- The name “rotavirus” comes from the Latin rota (wheel), reflecting its appearance.
