World Lion Day

 Lions belong to the family Felidae and the genus Panthera.

 They evolved from common ancestors of big cats around 2 million years ago.

• Lions lived in the ancient Near East and were well-known in biblical lands. Encounters with them were real dangers.

• David and the lion – David killed a lion while protecting his father’s sheep (1 Samuel 17:34–36).
