Shoulder Dislocation
Arthur S. Bankart, a British orthopedic surgeon, was the first to clearly describe the pathological lesion responsible for recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation.
-
In 1923, he presented his findings in British Journal of Surgery:
-
He emphasized that recurrent dislocations were not just due to ligamentous laxity but due to detachment of the labrum and capsule from the anterior glenoid rim.
-
He described the Bankart repair, a surgical technique to reattach this detached labrum to the glenoid rim.
