- At 8:15 AM, the United States
dropped an atomic bomb named “Little Boy” on the city of Hiroshima.
- It was the first time in history
that a nuclear weapon was used in warfare.
- The bomb released energy equivalent to 15,000
tons of TNT.
- ~70,000–80,000 people died instantly, and tens of thousands more died
from radiation in the following months and years.
- The bomb destroyed nearly 70% of the city.
