Pennyroyal Is Toxic
Pennyroyal = Hepatotoxicity
Contains pulegone, a monoterpene ketone.
Pulegone is hepatotoxic and neurotoxic.
Metabolized to menthofuran and other compounds that cause severe liver damage.

SEVERE LIVER INJURY
Toxicology

Extremely poisonous – even small amounts (5–15 mL of oil) can be fatal.

Causes multi-organ failure, especially hepatic necrosis.
Symptoms of poisoning:

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain.

Dizziness, seizures, coma.
-
Severe liver injury → jaundice, coagulopathy.
-
Renal failure in severe cases.
-
Uterine contractions, miscarriage (if pregnant).
