David Gruby (1810–1898) was the first to identify fungi as the cause of ringworm.
Between 1841 and 1844, Gruby described several dermatophytes responsible for ringworm infections of the skin, hair, and nails
Trichophyton tonsurans 1844
Found in scalp ringworm (tinea capitis).
Described as causing hair breakage and bald patches in children.
