Invention of Electric Traffic Lights

 

📍 Cleveland, Ohio — 1914

• The first electric traffic light was installed on August 5, 1914, at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street.
• Invented by James Hoge.
• Features:
• Used red and green lights.
• Included an audible buzzer to indicate the change of lights.
• Controlled manually from a nearby tower.
• This is the date many cities use to commemorate Traffic Light Day.
