Prehistoric Era: Breastfeeding was essential for infant survival. Archaeological remains of early humans show extended breastfeeding, often lasting 2–4 years.

 Ancient Egypt Breast milk was revered. The goddess Isis was often depicted nursing her son Horus, symbolizing divine motherhood.

Colostrum 





21st Century: Biomedical Research

  • Studies have explored colostrum’s potential in:
    • Gut healing (e.g., in IBS, Crohn’s disease)
    • Athletic performance
    • Immunity boosting
    • Anti-aging and skincare\
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF promote immediate breastfeeding, emphasizing the vital importance of colostrum within the first hour of birth.

World Breastfeeding Week is a global campaign held every first week of August to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding. It aims to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding for infants, mothers, families, and communities.

  1990: The Innocenti Declaration was signed by WHO and UNICEF in Florence, Italy, setting global goals for breastfeeding promotion.

1991: The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) was established to act on the declaration.

1992: The first World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated.

 Since then, WBW has been observed in over 170 countries, becoming the world’s biggest joint pro-breastfeeding initiative.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) also supports World Breastfeeding Week and provides resources for healthcare professionals and families
