Brazil And Plastic Surgery

2nd highest number of plastic surgeries globally (after the USA).

As of 2022, Brazil had approximately 7,830 licensed plastic surgeons

Representing about 1.6% of all licensed physicians in the country

Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, a world-renowned Brazilian plastic surgeon, helped shape modern aesthetic body contouring.

While Pitanguy did not invent the BBL, his approach to sculpting the body and emphasis on gluteal aesthetics inspired future generations.

Dr. Leonard Grossman, a plastic surgeon based in New York, is widely credited for giving the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) its name and pioneering its modern form.

In 1996, Dr. Grossman performed a televised fat transfer procedure on a Brazilian patient. The show was titled “Building the Brazilian Butt,” and the nickname caught on, leading to the term “Brazilian Butt Lift.”

Brazil became globally recognized for curvy beauty standards and plastic surgery, influencing the name "Brazilian Butt Lift."
