Chlamydia Trachomatis In Ebers Papyrus
The Ebers Papyrus (c. 1550 BCE) is a 20-meter-long ancient Egyptian
medical scroll, one of the oldest known medical documents. It describes
hundreds of diseases and treatments — including eye infections like trachoma,
which links it historically to Chlamydia trachomatis.

Chlamydia trachomatis has different strains (serovars)
causing different diseases:
- A,
B, Ba, C → Trachoma (chronic eye infection → blindness).
- D–K
→ Urogenital infections (most common cause of bacterial STDs
worldwide).
- Cervicitis,
urethritis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), infertility.
- Can
also cause neonatal conjunctivitis & pneumonia.
- L1,
L2, L3 → Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV), an invasive STD
causing genital ulcers and lymph node swelling.
