                                           Chlamydia Trachomatis In Ebers Papyrus

The Ebers Papyrus (c. 1550 BCE) is a 20-meter-long ancient Egyptian medical scroll, one of the oldest known medical documents. It describes hundreds of diseases and treatments — including eye infections like trachoma, which links it historically to Chlamydia trachomatis

                                                    Chlamydia Trachomatis

Chlamydia trachomatis has different strains (serovars) causing different diseases:

  • A, B, Ba, C → Trachoma (chronic eye infection → blindness).
  • D–K → Urogenital infections (most common cause of bacterial STDs worldwide).
    • Cervicitis, urethritis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), infertility.
    • Can also cause neonatal conjunctivitis & pneumonia.
  • L1, L2, L3 → Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV), an invasive STD causing genital ulcers and lymph node swelling.
