Katayama Fever is the name given to the acute form of schistosomiasis, especially seen in Schistosoma japonicum infection (common in Japan, China, and the Philippines). It was first described by Dr. Katayama in Japan in 1847, in patients along the Katayama district of Hiroshima Prefecture—hence the name.
