Continuous Flow Type Machine: Delivery Of Inhalational Anesthetics
Boyles Machine -1917
A Boyle’s machine is a continuous-flow anaesthetic machine designed to deliver a controlled mixture of gases (oxygen, nitrous oxide, air) and vapours (such as ether, later halothane, etc.) to patients during surgery.
Continuous Flow Anesthetic Machine
1917 – First machine with nitrous oxide, oxygen, and ether vaporizer.
1920s–1930s – Modified versions with improved vaporizers and flowmeters.
Modern machines – Now include ventilators, scavenging systems, monitoring devices, and electronic controls, but still follow Boyle’s principles.
