The Müllerian duct is an embryological structure that develops into the female internal reproductive organs.
Development Of Female Reproductive Organism From Mullerian Duct
In early embryonic life (about 6 weeks of gestation), both sexes have two duct systems:
-
Müllerian ducts (paramesonephric ducts)
-
Wolffian ducts (mesonephric ducts)
In females
Since there is no Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), the Müllerian ducts persist and differentiate.
They form:
-
Fallopian tubes
-
Uterus
-
Cervix
-
Upper two-thirds of the vagina
