Arabian Nights
The stories originate from Persian, Indian, and Arabic storytelling traditions.
The earliest core of the collection comes from a Persian book called Hezār Afsān (“A Thousand Tales”), which existed around the 8th–9th century.
Antonie Galland
First Translator Of Arabian Nights
- In 1709–1717, Galland published a French translation of Arabian Nights.
- During this translation project, he added several stories that were not present in earlier Arabic manuscripts, including:
- Aladdin
- Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
- Prince Ahmed and the Fairy Pari-Banu
Galland recorded the story after hearing it from a Syrian storyteller named Hanna Diyab in Paris around 1709.
The tale first appeared in Europe through the French Orientalist Antoine Galland
