CatSper

                                                                             Normal Sperm

The discovery of CatSper (Cation channel of sperm) is relatively recent and came from research on sperm motility and male infertility in the late 20th–early 21st century.

CatSper (Cation channel of Sperm) is a special calcium ion channel found in the tail (flagellum) of spermatozoa.

CatSper channels allow Ca²⁺ (calcium ions) to enter the sperm, which is required for:

  • Sperm motility (movement)
  • Hyperactivation (strong tail movement needed to reach the egg)
  • Fertilization ability
  • Acrosome reaction

Dhurandhar 2

हतो वा प्राप्स्यसि स्वर्ग जित्वा वा भोक्ष्यसे महीम् तस्मादुत्तिष्ठ कौन्तेय युद्धाय कृतनिश्चयः

If you fall upholding Dharma, you will attain heaven.

If you are victorious, the world is yours. So rise, O Arjuna, and prepare yourself for battle.

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥

You have the right to perform your duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions.

Do not let the results of action be your motive, and do not be attached to inaction.

Cingulate Gyrus

The cingulate gyrus forms a belt-like curved fold above the corpus callosum, which led early anatomists to give it this name.

The name comes from Latin:

  • cingulum = belt or girdle
  • gyrus = fold of cortex

Cingulate Gyrus = Emotion

Part Of The Limbic System

Papez Circuit

The function of the cingulate gyrus became clearer with work on emotion and behavior.

  • James Papez (1883–1958) proposed the
    Papez circuit in 1937.

The circuit included:

  • Hippocampus
  • Mammillary bodies
  • Thalamus
  • Cingulate gyrus

Papez suggested this circuit controlled emotion.

This was the first major functional role assigned to the cingulate gyrus.
