 The work of Bengt Samuelsson specifically also led to the discovery and understanding of leukotrienes.

• In the 1970s, Samuelsson's lab described leukotriene A4 (LTA4), B4 (LTB4), and others (LTC4, LTD4, LTE4).

• These were initially referred to as slow-reacting substances of anaphylaxis (SRS-A)
