Keratoconus
Keratoconus was first described by Burchard
Mauchart in 1748, but detailed clinical features became more defined
in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The scissoring
reflex became recognized as a key diagnostic clue with the
development of the retinoscope in the late 19th century (credited
to Jack Copeland and others).
