7000–8000 BCE: Early construction use recorded in Anatolia (Turkey) and floor foundations in Israel.

 

3000 BCE: Applied as mortar blocks and wall plaster in the construction of Egyptian pyramids 

1508–1512 CE: Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling directly on wet gypsum plaster
