George Coats = Coats Disease
The disease was first clearly described in 1908 by George Coats, a Scottish ophthalmologist associated with the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital. He studied eyes with unusual retinal vascular abnormalities and massive retinal exudation, including histopathological examination of enucleated eyes.
The condition was initially referred to as “exudative retinitis.”
