World ORS Day

 

Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), also known as Oral Rehydration Salts, is one of the most important public health innovations of the 20th century. 

It is a simple mixture of water, glucose, and electrolytes that prevents and treats dehydration caused by diarrhea and vomiting.

Indian pediatrician and researcher Dilip Mahalanabis used ORS extensively in refugee camps when intravenous fluids were scarce. 

The medical journal The Lancet described oral rehydration therapy as "potentially the most important medical advance of this century."
