World Scleroderma Day

                                                                   Scleroderma

  • The first well-documented medical description of scleroderma was published in 1753 by Carlo Curzio, an Italian physician from Naples.
  • Curzio described a young woman with unusually hard, tight skin that restricted movement. His report, "De Universali Corporis Affectione", is regarded as the first clinical account of systemic sclerosis.
  • In 1836, Giovanni Battista Fantonetti introduced the term "scleroderma", derived from Greek words meaning "hard skin."
