Scleroderma
The first well-documented medical description of scleroderma was published in 1753 by Carlo Curzio, an Italian physician from Naples.
Curzio described a young woman with unusually hard, tight skin that restricted movement. His report, "De Universali Corporis Affectione", is regarded as the first clinical account of systemic sclerosis. In 1836, Giovanni Battista Fantonetti introduced the term "scleroderma", derived from Greek words meaning "hard skin."
