Israel Navy Day (יום חיל הים) is officially celebrated annually on June 30, commemorating the day in 1948 when the Port of Haifa was captured by Israeli forces during the War of Independence

 The British Mandate authorities completed their withdrawal from the Port of Haifa on June 30, 1948, vacating the final military positions amid ongoing hostilities in the War of Independence, which had intensified following Israel's declaration of statehood on May 14.
