The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope was launched on June 11, 2008.

The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (formerly known as GLAST) is a powerful NASA orbital observatory launched on June 11, 2008. It is specifically designed to detect gamma rays—the most energetic and powerful form of light in the universe—mapping the entire sky every three hours to study black holes, pulsars, and cosmic ray accelerators.
