On June 11, 1748, Denmark formally adopted a regulation standardizing the exact proportions of its national flag, the Dannebrog. This decree formalized the distinctive off-center Nordic Cross (or Scandinavian Cross), laying a visual design foundation that was later embraced by all other Scandinavian countries.
While the Dannebrog holds the Guinness World Record as the oldest continuously used national flag in the world, the 1748 decree was significant for standardizing its rectangular shape and establishing its use for merchant vessels
