Nothing Is Written In Stone
It's a cultural reference; it's based on the Ten Commandments Moses brought down from Mount Sinai, which were literally written in (carved, etched, or burned into) tablets of stone. Thus, the phrase implies that nothing else is as absolute and unchangeable as the Ten Commandments.
One has to still deal with Biblical Oxymorons
