Brown-Séquard's interest was initially focused on determining how sensory impulses travel through the spinal cord.
In 1855, Brown-Séquard published Experimental and Clinical Researches on the Physiology and Pathology of the Spinal Cord. This work consolidated his experimental and clinical observations concerning spinal-cord pathways and hemisection.
