                                                              Hamartia To Hamartoma

The term “hamartoma” comes from the Greek word hamartia (ἁμαρτία), meaning error or fault, reflecting the concept of a localized developmental anomaly — an “error in tissue development.”

The term “hamartoma” was first introduced by Eugen Albrecht (1872–1908), a German pathologist, around 1904.

Albrecht used it to describe a tumor-like malformation composed of an abnormal mixture of tissues native to the organ in which it occurs.

PTEN GENE AND HAMARTOMA

The PTEN gene (Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog) is one of the most important tumor suppressor genes in the human body. It regulates cell growth, survival, and proliferation by controlling a major signaling pathway — the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.
