The Name Jerusalem: Bible 

Founder: Abraham called the name of that place Adonai jireh (God will see)

Shalem was the Cannanite name of Jerusalem means whole and peace

Israelite and Judahite history of Jerusalem begins with the conquest of David of the Jebusite stronghold or "Fortress of Zion." The biblical account of this event 

The successor to King David is his son who is better known by his Jerusalemite throne name, Sh'lomo which can either be rendered as an homage to the ancient Canaanite deity of Shalem or as a Hebrew name referring to the word shalom, peace. 





Jewish tradition refers to this period (c. 950-586) as the First Temple Period referring to the Jerusalemite royal shrine, built by King Solomon, which is said to have housed the Ark of the Covenant, connecting this golden age of the polity with the Laws of Moses.
