Trichomonas Vaginalis
Culture Of Trichomonas Vaginalis
Diamond Medium
L.S. Diamond developed the Trypticase-Yeast extract-Maltose (TYM) medium in 1957, which became the standard culture medium for the isolation and axenic cultivation of Trichomonas vaginalis
Diamond’s medium is essentially a trypticase/peptone-based enriched medium, supplemented with components that support the growth of T. vaginalis, including:
- Peptones / trypticase
- Yeast extract
- Serum
- Glucose
- Appropriate salts and buffering components
- Antibiotics, in some formulations, to suppress bacterial contaminants
