Melting Graft Wound Syndrome
Melting graft wound syndrome (MGWS), also known as ghosting graft syndrome or burn wound impetigo, is characterized by progressive epithelial loss from a previously well-taken skin graft, healed burn, or donor sites proposed by Matsumura et al1 in 1998.
The condition has largely been attributed to the effects of Staphylococcus aureus infection, resulting in patchy epithelial loss and a “moth-eaten” graft appearance,2 which usually result in considerable morbidity and require prolonged treatment.
