Calcofluor White is a fluorescent dye originally developed for the textile and paper industries as an optical brightener
Optical Brightener: Improve the whiteness and brightness of textiles, paper, and detergents by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) light and emitting blue fluorescence.
The chemical was introduced commercially by the American Cyanamid Company under the trade name Calcofluor White. Its primary industrial role was as a fluorescent whitening agent.
