Karina is a Swedish born journalist who travels to New Mexico to interview Lu. Lu is in her 60s, but as a kid she was continuously beat up for being Jewish in a non-Jewish community, Kenosha Wisconsin. Lu finds home and comfort and danger in the African American community. Lu's life is formed by her time with the community who don't care what her religion is. Karina thinks she is just going to interview Lu for a story, but her own story and life are forever changed by her time in New Mexico.
