Korea Similarities With India

Korea celebrates its liberation day or Gwangbokjeol on August 15 along with India as we celebrate India's independence from the British. The holiday is called National Liberation Day of Korea that signifies an end of Japanese rule on the Korea.

Koreas Handmade Paper

Hanji literally means ‘the paper of Hanguk (the Korean term to refer to the country),’ and is an exquisite traditional paper made with the fibrous skin of mulberry trees. The process of making hanji is lengthy and complicated. People say the completion of a single sheet of hanji requires “ninety-nine touches by the maker and one touch by the user.” Hanji has been closely intertwined with the livelihood of Koreans; it has been used in a multitude of ways not only as paper for drawing and writing, but also as efficient materials to create products such as suits of armor, lamps, and windows. Hanji has a  long history since the 4th and 5th centuries.

Hanoks

Hanok means ‘Korean house’ but on a broader level it includes all types of traditional Korean architecture, such as Buddhist temples. The architecture is not of sole importance in the design and construction of hanok. What is more important is how the hanok relates to the holistic environment around it. Physical and visual harmony between the architecture and nature around it is an essential factor. This is not a common consideration in western architecture where the construction is usually designed to stand out from its surroundings, and can be seen as a (positive) difference in East Asian architecture.
