Teesta Setalvad, Freny Manecksha and Sujatha Gidla
Moderator: Adrian Levy
Distortion of truth is prevalent worldwide. Authoritarianism and supremacy have taken over the world. Hate screams in our midst and vilifies us everyday.
There are shadows and silences in our democracy that one does not like to address.
Take for instance the way media is doing their business. One can get great anguish when they genuinely start looking at the facts. Those who know the facts can easily ascertain the reality of conscious and vicious vilification.
What is done is nothing but an attempt to cut the throats of voiceless. Stories that matter never get access to mainstream politics.
Examples
Mass Graves in South Kashmir.
People picked up by armed forces for interrogation end up missing in Kashmir.
Violent invasion of ones privacy in Kashmir.
Sexual Violence to subdue and bow down the population. CRPF doing mass rapes in Chattisgarh.
No human rights/standards apply in Kashmir.
Supreme Court does not extend support to marginalized communities. Judiciary does not want you to persevere. There is a constant threat for ones life if they decide to take a stand.
Many Supreme Court orders are not implemented.
Untouchability (Serious Issues) - Grass roots of the society.
Political misuse and misrepresentation of faith.
Nutshell: Few things matter to judiciary/media and many are not taken into account.
Books, articles, facts dont change society as life is always going on.

Humans pride our self as a species because of the ability to tell stories.
Stories provoke feelings. People usually get nut and gut feelings on reading and seeing stories.
Nut Feeling: Rational
Gut Feeling: Emotional
People absorb stories differently.
Reasons behind different absorption
1. Narratives are built at a very young age.
2. Narratives are hardwired into the brain
3. Mind automatically plays the image which is built on the narrative.

Migration: The roots of migration lie in thoughts of having a better kind of life than they are born into.
Migration is the perspective of Globalization. (World of fiction is different from autobiographical truth).
Nutshell:
If one sees the world through the lens of realism it has been and will be research that takes you to the room you want to get in. Beyond that it is ones own imagination.
Research only gets you so far. Truth lies within your own imagination and one must write about it truthfully. The world you are trying to represent must be represented truthfully.
