Bowen Disease
In 1912, Bowen published his landmark paper describing a peculiar, persistent, scaly erythematous skin patch that behaved clinically like a precancerous lesion but microscopically resembled carcinoma restricted to the epidermis.
“A type of intraepithelial carcinoma”
Establishment of Bowen’s disease as a true SCC precursor, with a small but real risk of progression to invasive SCC (3–5%).
