Blast From The Past: Patent Cooperation Treaty
The Washington Diplomatic Conference on the Patent Cooperation Treaty was held in Washington from 25 May to 19 June 1970.
The Patent Cooperation Treaty was signed on the last day of the conference on 19 June 1970. The Treaty entered into force on 24 January 1978, initially with 18 contracting states.
The first international applications were filed on 1 June 1978.
Blast From The Past: Heimlich Maneuver
The Heimlich Maneuver—a life-saving first-aid procedure for choking victims—was first published by Dr. Henry J. Heimlich on June 1, 1974.
His article, titled "Pop Goes the Cafe Coronary," debuted in the medical journal Emergency Medicine. Within months after the publication of this article, dozens of choking episodes were reported in which the victims' lives were saved by this method.
It is employed today by first aid personnel, emergency medical technicians, medical professionals and the lay public in a variety of emergencies.
Blast From The Past: Adolf Eichman
Adolf Eichmann, a chief architect of the Holocaust, was executed by hanging on the night between May 31 and June 1, 1962, at Ramla Prison in Israel.
This remains the only civilian execution in the history of the State of Israel.
