In 1972 Driscoll, Davis, and Lipetz found that parental interference in adult committed relationships or marriages was linked to increased levels of love and commitment. 

The tendency of relationship partners, usually adolescents, to feel greater affection for their partners when they perceive others (e.g., parents) to be interfering with the relationship. The Romeo and Juliet effect is an example of reactance, or the tendency to find something more desirable when outside forces threaten to restrict one’s access to it.
