Formalin Blocks Nerve Conduction 

In vitro

• At concentrations of 10 mM and higher, formaldehyde can completely block nerve conduction in A and C fibers. At 30 mM, formaldehyde can irreversibly block all A fibers, but some slow C fibers may survive. 
• In vivo

  In pilot experiments with rat skin, high concentrations of formaldehyde can transiently excite and then block all sensory nerve endings. This is followed by a second phase of discharge in small Aδ- and C-fibers.
