World of Medicine - Research

When it comes to medicine it has been research and always will. No one knows how exactly things work. We are always trying to figure things out. God never chose to give the secrets of the human body to his creation. Either way we are all finding and learning something new on a daily basis. No one has a upper hand i guess when it comes to knowing things. It has so far been Seek and you shall find.

On the note of Seek and you shall find i have come across some cool conclusive research in the field of medicine which i need to make a note of.

Experiment 1.

A Dutch experiment recently concluded that working out a few hours after learning something can maximize brain boost. Subjects who hopped onto a bike after a learning session retained more information than those who biked right away. Physical activity helps body produce catecholamines/natural compounds that improve memory consolidation.

Experiment 2

48 subjects limited their sleep to five hours for five nights. A safe amount of caffeine (200 mg) roughly equivalent to 2 cups of brewed coffee and 5 colas improved alertness on the first two days. It made no difference compared with a placebo on remaining 3 days. Repaying sleep debt is the best way to restore health and function.

Experiment 3

A Norwegian survey suggests that close relatives of severely depressed patients may succumb to depression themselves. This may be because they are struggling with the powerlessness and the fear that their loved ones may die by suicide.

Experiment 4

It has been shown that gut bacteria reduces the levels of anxiety. - Experiment out of observation, not planned study - A group of rats had low levels of gut bacteria and were showing signs of anxIety. Researchers at McMaster, Ontario thought it to be due to a construction site near the building causing them distress. Over the course of time signs of anxiety  still persisted. They were then given germ feed/probiotics which increases gut bacteria. After giving probiotics signs of anxiety seized over time.

In short probiotics may help with you anxiety. I guess serotonin in the gut has got something to do with it. Patients on antibiotics may have signs of anxiety which should be looked at in a clinical setting.

Experiment 5:

Study done in Technical University Denmark revealed that slower passage of food through large intestine seems to increase the amount of harmful metabolites along the way. Signs that your food transit time could be sluggish include infrequent bowel habits and abdominal pain. This may raise the risk of colorectal cancer and chronic renal disease. Eating a fiber rich diet, drinking lots of water and exercising are ways of speeding it up.

Experiment 6

AHA Journal, Circulation concluded that around 45 % of heart attacks go unnoticed. The damage is discovered only during annual examinations, check up in which signs of poor heart health are shown. Silent attacks triple the risk of eventually dying from heart disease. Once detected they should be treated with blood pressure control and life style changes.

Experiment 7

Weight loss (Bariatric surgery) can induce remission in Diabetes patients. 2013 study by Medanta-Mediciti, Gurgaon India revealed that more than 90 % of  obese patients were able to go off their Diabetes medications following surgery.  Quick reversible fix for Diabetes i guees.

Over 100 million Indian will suffer from Diabetes by 2030. I can definitely fall in this stupid category. Wish that they can come up with a permanent cure for this life style illnesss. Indians have the genes for it along with lifestyle and environment that determine our Diabetes risk.

Bariartric surgery is a quick fix for now.  Only by doing experiments we come to know who we really are. I say eventually the answer is  Fragile !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
