Malpighian Capsule
The Malpighian capsule—also known as the Malpighian corpuscle or renal corpuscle—is the blood-filtering component of the nephron, composed of a glomerulus and the surrounding Bowman's capsule.
Its history is a 200-year story of pioneering microscopy.
17th Century – Discovery by Marcello Malpighi (1628–1694):
- Italian biologist Marcello Malpighi, the "founder of microscopical anatomy," first described these "dark, vascular structures" in 1666.
- He described them as fruit suspended from a branch.
