Discovery Of Myeloperoxidase, 1941
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) was first isolated and purified by Kjell Agner in 1941 from green purulent fluid from patients with tuberculous empyema.
Agner's work revealed that MPO was an enzyme structurally different from other proteins known at the time.
He later investigated its ability to inactivate bacterial toxins.
